Why Your Skin’s Pigmentation Matters in Skincare

The melanin in your skin plays a key role in how it reacts to ingredients, retains moisture, and heals from damage. Here’s how our tailored approach makes a difference for Fitzpatrick Type 1 through 6:

Fitzpatrick Type 1 (Very Fair, Often with Albinism)

is highly prone to UV damage, extreme sensitivity, and dryness. Our formulations include extra UV protection support with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, along with high concentrations of antioxidants like vitamin C and green tea extract to defend against premature aging. We also incorporate calming ingredients like chamomile and licorice root to reduce irritation and inflammation. This skin type is common among people of Northern European descent, including those from Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia.

Fitzpatrick Type 2 (Fair to Light Skin)

tends to be sensitive and prone to redness but can develop some tanning over time. Our formulations balance skin-soothing agents with barrier-strengthening hydration, including squalane and ceramides, to maintain skin resilience. This skin type is prevalent among individuals of Central European, Baltic, and Ashkenazi Jewish descent.

Fitzpatrick Type 3 (Light to Medium, Olive Undertones)

is more resistant to UV damage but still experiences hyperpigmentation. Our skincare approach includes brightening agents like niacinamide and licorice extract to even out skin tone while maintaining hydration with hyaluronic acid. This type is common in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and South Asian populations.

Fitzpatrick Type 4 (Medium to Deep Tan, Warm Undertones)

has a natural ability to tan but can be prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and uneven tone. Our products are enriched with melanin-friendly ingredients like kojic acid and licorice extract to promote even skin tone while deeply hydrating with glycerin and shea butter. This skin type is frequently found in Hispanic, Indigenous, Pacific Islander, and some South Asian communities.

Fitzpatrick Type 5 (Dark Brown Skin, Higher Melanin Content)

has a strong natural barrier against UV damage but is highly prone to hyperpigmentation and scarring from acne or irritation. Our formulations emphasize hydration, barrier repair, and gentle brightening ingredients like vitamin C, licorice extract, and niacinamide to maintain an even complexion. This skin type is often found in people of African, Afro-Caribbean, and South Indian descent.

Fitzpatrick Type 6 (Deeply Pigmented, Rich Brown to Black Skin)

offers the most natural UV protection but is susceptible to hyperpigmentation, dryness, and uneven skin tone. Our products focus on deep hydration with shea butter, baobab oil, and ceramides, while incorporating gentle exfoliants like PHA and lactic acid to prevent dullness and rough texture. This type is common among individuals of Sub-Saharan African, African-American, and Afro-Latinx descent.
